ABB has commissioned a new AI-enabled automated spray booth at its $150 million Shanghai Super Factory, marking a significant advancement in the intelligent, flexible manufacturing of robots for Chinese and Asian markets. This fully automated painting line enhances sustainability while increasing spraying efficiency by 20% and doubling overall production capacity.

The facility features 15 robots performing high-precision processes including dry ice cleaning, primer and topcoat spraying, drying, and forced cooling. Equipped with an advanced IPS control system and paint supply system, it ensures coating uniformity and consistent quality through fully automated operation.
Key Performance Improvements:
Completes robot painting every 15 minutes
20% higher spraying efficiency
100% increased total capacity
36% reduced operating costs
60% less hazardous waste through advanced low-pressure spraying technology
Over 98% VOC removal via high-temperature oxidation system

"The automated spray booth demonstrates our commitment to innovation in robot manufacturing automation and flexibility," said Marc Segura, ABB's Global President for Robotics. "Combining our robotic painting solutions with AI-powered software showcases our expertise in intelligent automation to meet growing market demands in China and Asia."
The integration of ABB's RobotStudio offline programming and simulation tools enables virtual commissioning and AI-optimized process control. "As China remains the world's largest robotics market, our continued investment in the Super Factory underscores our commitment to advancing local automation," added Steven Han, Senior Vice President of ABB Group and Head of Robotics China.
